Thomas College's Sport Management Programs were recognized by the Commission of Sport Management Accreditation,
or COSMA, on October 27, 2012. This is an honor for Thomas College as
only 11 colleges and universities have had their sport management
programs accredited by COSMA. Thomas College
currently offers five different COSMA-accredited sport management degree
programs: BS Sport Management, BS Sport Marketing Management, BS Sport
Management, Golf Concentration, BS Sport Management/MBA and MBA-HR/BS in
 Sport Management.

In
order to be considered for accreditation by COSMA, Thomas College
submitted a Self Study document which addressed and met COSMA's
principles. There were a grand total of 17 principles Thomas College
needed to fulfill; some of these principles included the following:
- The program must clearly define its mission and goals, which need to be consistent with the institution.
 - Students within the sport management program will develop into ethical, competent and well-educated sport management professionals both personally and professionally.
 - The program must encourage and promote working relationships with other educational units, both internally and externally, that are consistent with their mission and goals.
 - The faculty within the program must model both ethical character and integrate ethical principles and viewpoints within their teaching.
 - The mission of the sport management program and institution are both effectively communicated to prospective and current students.

Dr. Don Cragen, Assistant Professor in the Business Department and Faculty Senate Chair stated, "The
COSMA accreditation was an important step for the Sport Management
program.  It was a culmination of a concerted effort by many people to
ensure that our students are graduating with the most current
information and are well prepared for post graduate success.  The
accreditation places the Thomas College Sport Management curriculum as
one of the strongest programs in Maine. Thomas is the first institution
in the state and just one of a handful in New England to hold this
accreditation.  It speaks volumes to the ability of our students,
current and past."
