2014 Season Outlook
WATERVILLE, ME - The Thomas men's lacrosse team will look to continue to grow under second year Head Coach Jake Cohen. Thomas is coming off of first round exit in the NAC Playoffs to Husson, and will look to go deep into the playoffs in the 2014 season.
Top point scorer Gunnar Shelton returns for his senior season after leading the Red and Black with 31 points (15 goals and 16 assists). Senior attack man Jordan Marino (14 goals, 9 assists) also adds another veteran weapon to the Terriers offensive arsenal.
Also returning is Parker Chute (18 goals, 2 assists), Bryan Ferris (14 goals, 3 Assists), and long stick midfielder Zac Crimmin, who all had stellar freshman campaigns and will look to continue to progress with a season of college lacrosse under their belts.
There will be a big hole to fill between the pipes after losing captain, and current Assistant Coach Jesse Morkeski. Looking to fill the void in net will be returner Dakota Gendreau and first-year Carlos Cardona.
Newcomers Oleg Deyle and Caleb Runci will look to provide an immediate impact on the first line midfield along with Shelton, while Derek Driscoll will hold down the "X" attack position in his first season of collegiate competition.
There are new faces on the team that will try and add depth to the program. Pulling in eight newcomers to the team and having 12 returners with senior veterans will make the Terriers a contender in the North Atlantic Conference this spring.
Thomas will begin their season tonight at Emerson College in a non-conference match-up at 5:00pm, then have their season opener on Sunday against Mount St. Vincent (NY) at 1:30pm at Colby College.

Thomas lax fact of the day
Did you know 2013 was the first year since 2008 Thomas had an all conference performer? In 2013 we had two! First team goalie Jesse Morkeski & second team midfielder Gunnar Shelton who will be returning this spring for his senior campaign.

2014 Captains
I’m proud to announce the captains for the 2014 campaign are
senior Gunnar
Shelton & sophomore Zac
Crimmin. The high character, hard
work, and leadership theses two display consistently made the decision to make
them captains a no-brainer. Last year we had three terrific captains unfortunately
all three were seniors but both Zac & Gunnar being student-athletes of such
high character made the decision making process on the new captains an easy
one.

Get your popcorn out this spring
I know this blog is supposed to be about all things Thomas lacrosse so I apologize ahead of time for changing the aim of the blog a bit for this particular entry.
Being a
fan of the game I can’t hold back my excitement to finally check out the “new”
ACC in lacrosse action this spring. Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, Notre Dame,
Syracuse, and Virginia in one conference! Need I say more? This is the lacrosse
equivalent of the SEC in college football. I think it’s a pretty fair assessment
to assume the national championship will be coming out of the ACC this year. I don’t
think anyone who follows the game of lax would be shocked to see any of the six
ACC teams playing on Memorial Day this year.
As the
snow starts to melt (I hope sooner rather than later) and the college lacrosse
season begins to ramp up get your popcorn out and make sure you set your DVR
to record the ACC in action this spring.
